Question:
G tube

I am twelve days post op and I also have this G tube. I have been sick the entire time both in the hospital and at home. It appears these tubes just don't agree with me. The first tube in my nose was removed the day after surgery. The second tube was removed 5 days after surgery. I had some type of gas build up and it was so painful I was screaming. Once I got to the doctor he removed it and it seemed like I deflated. Now, I am so misrable with the G tube I can't walk across the room without being out of breath. I am in pain most of the time the only time it doesn't hurt is if I lay totally still and don't move. I am giving this two more days and then I will be asking my doctor to remove this one as well. I am crying all the time from depression. This is so very hard for me I just am overwhelmed with all the pain and sickness.    — ceejay51 (posted on May 16, 2005)

Hi Cheryl. Your story sound all too familiar. I had my surgery feb 22nd and had some complications. I ended up with the G tube, and 2 JP drains. I was hospitalized for 25 days in which one drain was taken out and the other about a month ago. I just had the the G tube removed last Wednesday and was more than THRILLED!!!!! It's scary just knowing this thing is in there and it's a nuisance. Mine was pretty painful at times, especially the first few weeks, but it does get better. I had alot of pain when I tried to lay on my side or when the tube moved in and out. But now I'm down 60lbs and feel pretty good even after all of that. Be strong. It will get better (especially when your weight starts falling off).

Hi Cheryl, I know just how you feel. Monday made my 3 weeks out. I have lost 32 lbs. I also had the jp tube and the g tube. I cried all the time. The worst pain I have ever felt. I would not do this again if I were asked to. I had the jp tube removed after the first week and the g tube removed last week which was 2 weeks later. You don't feel a thing when they remove it. I was completely shocked cause people told me how painful it was to be removed. I dont' know why people do that for. But I don't even know when he got it out. I couldn't hardly get up or lay down or move or anything. I kept it taped up during the day. That seemed to help a whole lot. The hole is still not healed up yet but it looks a lot better than it did. I am having trouble trying to find something I can hold down. Everything wants to come back up on me. I have drunk protein drinks until just the smell makes me want to puke. I have bought so much stuff and it all makes me sick. I know we are not to drink carbonated beverages like sprite but it is all that I can hold down. Even water makes me sick. The sprite makes me belch and I feel better. Even the flintstones makes me sick. I can hold down crackers and sprite. I ate some p-nut butter and crackers tonight and held them down. I can hold down cheese and crackers. Sugar doesn't seem to bother me either. Are you having trouble keeping your foods down or are you still on clear liquids. I cana keep them down too. I just don't know where else to find protein. I bought some string cheese tonight too. I will try that tomorrow. I also bought some lactose free milk. I sure hope that will help. I hope what i have told you will help you some. Just hold on and that g tube will come out. You will feel like a milliion bucks when it does. You will be so surprised how much better you will feel. keep in touch with me, I care and am interested how you will be doing. just e-mail me. take care.
