Please be patient. Your weight loss is wonderful so far. If you lose too fast it is very hard on your heart. I am 5 weeks post-op and have lost 32# - so you can see it is normal to lose slowly (at least it seems slowly doesn't it?) You are right on track. Good Luck!

Hi Ann: Congratulations on your 23 pounds. Remember, you can't lose 30 unless you've lost 25. Right? Now, relax, be patient with your body. I had plateaus immediately following surgery, too. They end, really they do. I'm 5 1/2 months post-op now, and have gone from a starting weight of 300 to 212. Haven't lost an ounce in over 2 weeks now, but that's ok. Concentrate on drinking your water. Follow your diet guidelines that your doctor gave you. The weight WILL come off. Also, I went through a period of depression several weeks after my surgery. I felt miserable, especially when watching other people eat. I felt like I had ruined my life! Fortunately, that passed, too, and now I'm happier than I have been in years. Keep remembering why you had the surgery to begin with. Plateaus will come and go. Good luck with your weight loss! Jaye Carl, open proximal RNY 7-29-99. 88 pounds gone, forever!

Had my RNY 11/12/99. I lost 13 lbs. first 12 days. Back in the hosp. for 10 days with an abscess. Nothing but special IV nutrition most of that time. Gained 3 lbs. Was down 20 lbs. total by 4-1/2 weeks. It has been a crawl ever since. I also did not expect plateau this early. My doc nor his nurses have been able to explain why. I also am not getting in many calories, up to about 800 cals. a day. I went into this with severe long term depression. Boy, is it getting worse. I rarely feel that I should have it reversed....can not bear the thought of another major surgery. But, I often wonder has it been worth it. I lost 12 lbs. pre-op just following Atkins diet. It was easier to lose those 12 without the surgery than it has been to lose what I have since the surgery. I keep waiting to get off this plateu. Not just 11 days of plateau but nearly 5 weeks.

Hi! My surgery was 12/14 and I'm rejoicing because 21 pounds are gone forever. I've never lost this kind of weight in four weeks before and I'm ecstatic. People already wonder what is different about me. I understand that the weight loss may slow to about 10 pounds a month and that is fine by me...less chance of saggy skin. Thankfully, Sue (236# on 12/14, 215# today!)

Ann, I lost 22.5 lbs in the first 14 days and in the second 14 I only lost 7.5 more. You will plateau, but you will pick back up again. Your body has to adjust - kind of like the stock market. Be sure you are drinking your water and walking every day. Chin up - it will pick up again!

From everything that I have read you need to vary what your eating. If you eat the same things you body thinks it isn't suppose to lose. If your eating a lot of pudding, try soup with protein powder instead. If your eating cottage cheese try yogart. It just sort of jump starts your weight lost again. You will lose even if you don't change what you eat but this will help do it faster.
