Question:
I have ulcers and am on 150mg of Zantac, how will WLS affect?

I have ulcers from smoking, stress and pain meds. I also have reflux esophogitis(spl?) it is a ulcer on the bottom of my esophogus, what will happen to these after the surgery? will they become inflamed in the unused part of the stomach?    — Andrew R. (posted on January 7, 2002)

Pretty much had the same situation as you before surgery. Afterwards my surgeon has us on Aciphex (another acid blocker) for the first 3 months and from what he says the portion of the stomach used isn't the part that ulcers usually affect. I'm not sure exactly how it affects the portion of the stomach that is bypassed but I don't seem to be having any problems. Hope that helps.
