Question:
I would like to hear from anyone that has had either a lap or open

procedure who lost their weight and then gained it back. I don't want to hear stories about a friend's cousin's brother who gained back all their weight, I want to hear from the person personally. I want to know what they did to cause this to happen. I am 15 months post op, down 112 pounds and live is fear of this happening to me. We hear stories all the time about people who have gained back all their weight but never seem to hear from the actual people themselves. So please, if you are out there, let me know what went wrong, enlighten me, maybe you can help me to put this into perspective. Thank you.    — Lynne R. (posted on December 4, 2002)

Barb Thompsons great book talks of this. Many regain some . My surgeon has NEVER had anyone regain it all.

I don't think you'll hear from the people who have regained their weight loss because those people are no longer logging on the sites like this. But they DO exist.

I have found the majority of people who have gained weight back did not have an RNY gastric bypass. They usually had some other form of WLS, such as my mother who had stomach stapling done in 1983. She did gain her weight back, but again, it's not the same procedure. People who did gain a lot back after an RNY gastric bypass usually had complications from it like a stoma that was too large. At least, this is what I have found in my research. Lap RNY 9-16-02 Down 55 lbs.

Grads is for people one or more years out to POST. Anyone can lurk and I highly recommend it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG ********* Lurk here for awhile, then ask your question. I had to be revised, but because I work with a lot of us, I was able to spot the problem right away, so did not regain much during the insurance hassle period, before revision. Left unfixed, though, I would've gained back every pound. I have hosted many people who have had 100+% regain because: mechanical breakdown (such as mine), but there are LOTS of things that can happen; grazing & sugar; not having the right tools to go past that 2 year wall---there are many reasons that we can regain. Many, many are not a fault issue. AN old surgery, a new surgery done poorly, mainly, facing the future with a bad set of instructions. If you adhere religiously to bad advice, you're just as heavy as if you threw good instructions out the window.
