Question:
5 Months Out Slow Loss and Losing My Hair, How Concerned Should I Be?

I am 5 months post op and I have lost about 75 lbs maybe a few more by now. I started at 314 and I'm concerned that this is not normal. My surgeon bypassed 100cm whatever that means. I started losing my hair 2 weeks ago and it wont stop I've lost like 1/5 of my hair already. Is this normal?    — lisa N. (posted on March 20, 2003)

Congrats on the weight loss. yes, it is normal to lose hair. More do than don't but don't worry, you wont go bald and it will come back.

Hi Lisa- 75lbs. in 5 months is excellent weight loss! You are doing really well. Also, the weight loss tends to slow down a little after 6 months. Although you are 5, it could've slowed down, or you could be on a plateau. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. And I lost my hair as well around 6 months out. I ended up losing probably 1/2 of it, but I had thick hair thankfully, so it looked okay. It's just part of the process for some of us unfortunately, but it will grow back! Goodluck to you
