Question:
Is there any long term post ops who have NOT had to have the Gall Bladder Removed?

I was wondering if there are any long term post ops who did not have to have their gallbladder removed?    — tdickson (posted on April 4, 2005)

Me and my wife. Gallbladder trouble is common but its not anywhere near 100%. Our surgeons group gives Actigal during the fast loss phase first 6 months, to prevent troubles. Talking to those who HAD to have it removed said it was a easy surgery, overnite at most in hospital, back to work in a week.

Me! I'll be four years out in August and still have my gall bladder. My surgeon gave me Actigall as a new post-op which I took for several months and that seemed to work. I haven't had any problems.

Hello, I will be 3 years out in May (RNY) and have no trouble with my gall bladder. I lost the bulk of my 110 lbs within the first 7 months and I was nervous about it, but everything is fine (knock on wood)except for slight instances of hypoglycemia one in awhile. Docs always give you the worst scenario and it can add fears, but just eat well, stay hydrated and take your suppliments! Get in tune to your body signals. Best wishes on your journey, Kathy A Collins :0)

I am 2.5 years post-op but had the same concerns as you. I went on a drug called actigall post-op which prevents gallstones. I Was told that the breakdown in our bodies of fat is a compound similar to a gallstone which predisposes us to gallstones. I found gastric bypass to be life saving but I also found it to be difficult. I did not want to have to go through another surgery. Anyway, so far so good. No other surgeries needed. Just my 2 cents worth.

4 years and 4 months out and I still have my gall bladder. However, I did have a scan and it was thought that I have "sludge". It rarely bothers me. I would suspect though that I will one day have my gall bladder removed.
