Question:
What is the difference between conversion and revision?

My DR sent my approval letter in and it said that he wanted to convert my VBG int a RNY. BCBS says that they only have 2 procedure codes for this one is for gastric bypass and one is for revision of gastric bypass . They will not proceed with my case until they get the procedure codes straightened out with my Dr's office . Is there a difference between revising a previous surgery and converting a previous surgery? I'm so scared that bcbs will deny me now because of this.    — doreen M. (posted on August 22, 2000)

"Conversion" "Revision" "Take-Down" are different terms for the same terms. Call your doctor's office and ask them to tell BCBS the proper CPT code. I would say it is for revision of gastric bypass, but your surgeon's office is the one to make that call. Good luck.
