Question:
I am on levoxl.....for life.....

I have no thyroid. I am on levoxl.....I have to take it everyday for the rest of my life...is this going to be a problem after I have the surgery?    — Lisa D. (posted on June 24, 2001)

I am also on Levoxyl. I told my surgeon I was taking it and never indicated any problems would or could be caused before or after surgery from taking Levoxyl. I'm pretty sure many overweight people take meds for thyroid problems. To be sure, just call your surgeon's office and ask him. They should be very willing to answer all your questions.

Hi Lisa, I am taking Levoxyl also for thyroid problems and I ahve been told it is ok after surgery.You may want to crush it at first. Check with your doctor to be sure. Be well!

I was on levoxl pre surgery and have been taking it post surgery for almost 2 months with no problems for my thyroid problems. Post-op my surgeon recommended having my thyroid level tested one-month, three-month, six-months and annually after that to be sure my thyroid levels are under control. The amount you take could change but there is no problem taking it or absorbing it after RNY - don't know about other surgeries. Good luck!
