Question:
Is Heparin causing me to bleed so much?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and I was bit by a bug on the shoulder about a week after surgery and everytime I accidentally hit the scab off, it bleeds profusely!! Is this because of the heparin shots that I received? And should it still be taking affect like this, 2 weeks after surgery? It really bleeds bad, drips real dark and heavy down my chest before I can even get a tissue to stop it. Please help, I am a little concerned about this!!    — ncgal (posted on August 26, 2001)

Hey..yes it is the cause of you bleeding so much. BECAREFUL..I was on herpin for nine months with both of my children. And I know my doc will be putting me back on it during surgery. It is thinning your blood so you don't have any blood clots. Once you are off the herpin you will go back to noraml. Best of Luck..oh and if something bleeds too long contact your doctor.
