I would vomit for 1-2 days following surgery in the past. I vomitted DURING my caesarean sections. My understanding is that it is caused by the anesthesia. Part of my pre-op was a discussion with the anesthesiologist about prior experiences with surgery. He told me that he'd put a medication in my IV that would prevent the nausea. I had lap RNY on 10/15/2002 and had no vomitting or nausea at all. Good luck!

I, too, have had terrible problems in the past with post-anesthesia vomiting. I discussed this in great depth with the anesthesiologist when I went in for my preop tests and he said they would give me "everything but the kitchen sink" to help stop that from happening. I did MUCH better this time! I threw up about 3 times the night of surgery and THAT'S ALL! Yeah, it wasn't the greatest feeling in the world..........but I lived and would do it all again in a heartbeat! Be sure to tell the anesthesiologist about your problem and they will do everything they can to help you out. GOOD LUCK!

I also did this after sinus surgery. Miserable. I had the op report faxed to my WLS surgeon so they could avoid whatever the sinus surgery had done! No problem, no nausea.

I have had several surgerys and I always vomit after them. I talked to the person who gives the anistetic(sp) anyway I told them they told me before that they would give me something to help and I said ya ya I have heard it before and this time it was wonderful waking up. It was like waking up from a lazy nap where you just kind of float back to conciounes. Not one bit of vomiting. Be sure to tell them what you are afraid of and they should help you out. All my best to you on your surgery. Cynthia M

Hi Nicole, Tell your anesthesiologist when you go for your pre op teaching and ask for Zofran, this is a medication they can give you through out your surgery to prevent you from vomitting. I wish you all the best!!

Hi Nicole. I had a reaction to Morphine, the pain med they gave me after my hystorectomy. I was sick for days. So now I let them know about the reaction. I haven't had any problems with other meds, after other surgery and procedures. Discuss your problem with your doctor.

Nicole - The vomiting is a result of the anesthesia. Also, some people vomit from the effects of the morphine. I just had my sugery 10 days ago. In addition to all the stuff the anesthesiologist gave me during surgery to prevent vomiting, my surgeon had me on Demerol (not Morphine) for the pain and I was given a shot of Tigan (for nausea) every time I got the Demerol. I could only have the Demerol every 6 hours, but in between they gave me Toporol (a milder pain killer) if I needed it. I never vomited and actually felt so good after the Demerol/Tigan shots I would get up and walk the corriders. Good luck to you.
