I've dealt with depression, though, it was long before surgery. Depression to the point that I came very close to "doing myself in." A friend recognized what was going on and dragged me to the doctor. I've been on Paxil for years and for a bit I voluntarily saw a therapist. Both help, neither is anything to be ashamed of. If you want to chat, give me an e-mail . . . its not fun, but its treatable. Hugs, Linda

I have gone thru depression also, not much fun living with depression and panic attacks. I went for counciling which I am not ashamed of, was put on paxil and buspar. Both are great pills and help alot. There have been time when I said I didn't need the pills and stopped them. Believe me that was not a pretty site, have to stay on the pill to keep your self under control. PLEASE get help for yourself.

Please, please seek therapy. Depresison is not cured by WLS - in fact, having a drastic, rapid change in body image and attitude (and that of those around you) can sometimes aggrevate the situation. Been there, sister. But a great therapist can make all the difference in the world. Best wishes for you.

Please check out www.ahealinghouse.com it is a place you can ask about depression. WLS doesnt always cure these things and sometimes makes it worse. No food to comfort ourselves with. Check out the site, its free to join

Dear Carol, There are wonderful medications out there (SSRI's). I had the same problem post-op and was totally free of the problem once I went on Zoloft. They are great medications and you will do great if you try them. Don't delay. Sincerely, Carla
