Question:
I don't know if I have hit a plateau or if something is wrong

I'll be 7 mons out on 12*8*01 I started at 392.5lbs I was down to 295 on 11*18*01 and today I was 302. Nothing came off in September and because of the gain I've only lost 1lb in November. I've been writing down everything I eat I'm between 690 and 1200 calories a day I get my protein in and my water. I don't go to my surgon any more, that's something I can't get in to, and I don't have anyone to ask that know about the surgery. My support group has tried to help me but none of them have gone through this. I'm so scared that I went through everything for nothing and this is just something else that I've failed at. I need help but I don't know where to get it. If there is anyone that has any idea what could be worng please let me know. My e-mail is [email protected] . I was reading on streche stomas and I don't get the full feeling like I use to but I'm not eating enough calories to gain. I don't know I'm lost and confused and ready to give up. Please help me if you can. Thanks Lori    — Lori L. (posted on November 22, 2001)

How much do you exercise? That completely shapes my loss... if I get 45 minutes to an hour EVERY DAY, the weight just falls right off, otherwise it's slower. Also, how much water are you drinking? 2-3 liters is a good way to start. How about vitamins and minerals? Finally, get your PCP to check your thyroid function. Don't give up yet!

Hi Lori. Maybe since for whatever reason you don't go to your surgeon anymore, you can go to a different one. You should have a doctor "just in case". I also agree with the previous poster.....try exercising or increasing your exercise. Even if it's just a matter of walking around the block. What food choices are you making? Are you eating a lot of carbs? That will effect weightloss dramatically. If so, cut out the carbs and increase your protein and water intake. If you do these things and the weight still isn't coming off then maybe you really should consider seeing a doctor. Good Luck!!

I started at 370 and have lose pretty fast. I di have times like you are having now. It made me want to cry. Also, remember that your pouch is bigger now then it was the first month. My doc said picture an egg at surgery time and it stretched a little each month and 8 months later it may be an apple size. During these times, I removed everything from my diet except for protein for two-five days, I used my old diet mentality. NO carbs! It would jump start me. I also did like the other poster said and exercised more. Try that for just two days. Dont expect the scale to jump after one day, but it will move after about two days. Protein, protein, protein. Example: egg beaters for breakfast. Turkey meat for lunch, sf jello for snacks and a piece of fish for dinner. Good luck and know that others have been where you are.
