Question:
Why do overweight people sometimes have constant congestion? Will WLS cure it?

I have seen a few people mention congestion pre-op. I have it and yet NO allergies (I was fully tested)    — Grace M. (posted on April 1, 2002)

Carly, I don't know the reason for the congestion, but I also suffered from it pre-op. I am now almost 15 mos postop, down 150 lbs and suffer from it no more.

Hey, you know, I never connected it to WLS, but I did notice that I didn't have to cough myself to sleep both last fall and this spring. I thought my body was finally recovering from having stopped smoking two years ago, but now I do think that it is because I am healthier. Thanks for the thought.

I had a dr tell me I was lucky I carried my weight low, because obese people who carry the weight up around the belly and chest have pulmonary problems from the weight pressing on the lungs. Maybe this is why the congestion? Just a guess lol...
