Question:
Seeking Resources on Living With Obesity

Some of us on this board are somewhere in the midst of WLS - researching, doing the insurance dance, trying to self pay, etc. But there are some out there that need support and aren't yet ready to consider WLS. This is the best site I've ever been to and we have all been where these folks are. Where did any of you find support for living with obesity before this site?? I've been searching the web for a support group like this that doesn't have the emphasis on WLS as I've not found my friend anything locally to help her, other than psychiatrists & professional councelors which she isn't comfortable with. She doesn't find talking with a 110 lb councelor who has never lived a single day as a fat person helpful (and personally I can't blame her). We're rural so our resources are limited here. Any suggestions and advise would be helpful. I've posted a similiar question before to have it not posted. I'm not trying to take away any membership from AMOS at all, just trying to help someone who isn't at the same point as us but still needs support all the same. Thanks in advance. You can email me privately if you'd like.    — Shelly S. (posted on May 8, 2003)

A friend of mine once told me about a group on the web called FATSO as in FAT? SO! I am not sure how you might find the group but possibly just a web search. I understand where you are and I respect your decision as I think we all make the decisions we believe is right for us, but I can't tell you how happy I am with my decision to have my Lap RNY. I am down 65lbs in 3 months. 287/222. Best of Luck!

Hi Shelly, there is a group calle NAFA, It is the "National Association of Fat Acceptance" I think you just do a web search, I found it awhile ago by going to www. bigbeautifulwomen.com. (at least I think this is it). They are really against this kind of surgery though so that is the reason I know longer belong to their support group. Hope this helps.
