Question:
I had my RNY July 2002

I'm 5'7 my start weight was 303 size 24/26 yuk!! As of today I weigh 189 but a size 9/10 and if I'm really in the mood for torture I'll squeeze my tush into 8's..But how could this be, I understand about losing inches part but my scale hasnt moved in over a month..So I quess what I'm asking, is it possible for weight to be carried in the extra skin? and just how much can extra skin weigh? (hope that makes sense) I mean I can tell I have lost the weight but my mid section tells another story, I look like Joba the Hut without clothes.. I have a appointment with a plastic surgeon on the 23rd, not sure if thats a good thing since I'm 45 too 50 over weight..I read that it's better too waite until reaching the last 20 pounds..I'm sooo confused, I just really dont want too waste the Dr's time I quess    — Dawn O. I am also 5'7". My start weight was 248 on he day of surgery. I wore a size 24 at that weight. I am now 186 and just squeezed into a size 14 Old Navy jeans. You are lucky that your inches have really gone down so much. When I put those jeans on tonight I had so much skin over the top that I couldn't believe it. Jaba the Hut is a great way to explain it. I am waiting til next summer for the plastic surgery stuff. I hate the skin but figure I have 40 pounds or so to go and only want ot do reconstructive stuff one time. Best of luck to you!!

Hi! I definitely know how you are feeling. I had lap RNY 08/15/02 and am down 95 lbs weighing in at 205. I have so much skin I have to tuck my stomach in like a shirt. It's hard to look good when you have a skin tire around your middle. A friend that had plastic surgery a few months ago had 40lbs of skin/fat removed. She had the belt surgery though. Another friend had a pannulectomy done and had 12lbs removed. I've heard of anything between 7 lbs and 40 lbs of skin. I'm going this Friday to see my first surgeon. I'm banking on about 20 lbs of skin all over (tummy, thighs and arms). I'm 5'6" and 180 looks really good on me, if everything was tighter. I know I'll probably lose another 20lbs over the next 6-8 months too...so that should put me about right. I don't think you are too early in going now. There just don't seem to be too many p.s. who are skilled with heavier patients on skin removal but it is getting more prominent since there have been more and more RNY's and stuff. I've read where they have to use a heavier braided stitch on our surturing and some other techniques that are being taught now. Make sure and ask about their experience doing larger patients. Good luck!!! Melisa RNY 08/15/02 -95 lbs
