I had a BMI of 73.5 at the time of my open RNY last July 17th (5'4" tall and 427 pounds). I have lost 181 pounds at the time of my last weigh-in on 6/14 - weighed 246 with a BMI of 42.3. I am still losing between 5-10 pounds a month even at a year out...JR

I started with a BMI of over 61 when I had my LAP RNY on 10/09/02 (I was 6'3" and weighed over 500 pounds). After my first month, I dropped over 80 pounds; as I approach my 9 month anniversary, I have lost 240 pounds. Right now, I am at the pant and shirt size that was my goal, but I want to drop at least another 20 pounds.

Hi Stacy! I had DS 6/11/02, BMI was 57. On 6/10/03 my BMI was 35, wt 233. DSers lose a bit slower but have a better end result of the average of all groups: more total weight lost and no regain of the weight, ever! For a comparison of all the surgeries go to http://gr-ds.com/forpatients/comparison.html Good luck deciding; it's not easy! Chris

My BMI was around 58.3 (319 lbs) and now around 28.5 (162-164 lbs). I lost 108 by 6 months. Then it was 137 on my 1st year anniversary. I had lost 151 lbs by 18 months and 160 lbs by 2 years. I'm still 30 lbs from goal and my jeans are a 34 waist and goal is a 30 waist. I never could get to goal, but thankfully, so far I've kept off what I've lost. I weigh myself daily as I have this fear of not keeping it off.
