Question:
Anyone experience a burning pain around incision sight?

I am 11 days post op Lap RNY and have been feeling pretty good, getting around etc. last night I began to experience a terrible sharp/burning pain when moving certain ways, mostly rising and getting into bed, sitting down etc. The pain is in the area of one of my main incisions but not right underneath (to the left of my belly button and slightly above) When I try to get out of bed I feel like I am being ripped apart, I have no fever and no redness around the area, I have heard similar symptoms from people who have had a drain, I've never had one, anyone experience anythng similar...The pain can be crippling.    — jane O. I had open RNY so I can't relate exactly to what you are experiencing but it sounds like it might be a muscle pulling. However, to be sure, I would call the surgeon. It also sounds like how I felt with my hernias but it's probably too soon for hernias or adhesions.

I am now 8 week post op and I can relate. I have had the same burning sensation in different sides of my incision. I was told it is part of the healing process. Some days I feel will this pain ever go away. Just be easy on yourself and each day gets better.

I experienced the same pain 2 1/2 weeks out. It's probably your stitch that's in the muscle that's irritating a nerve. It put me back in bed for a week. Put a hot compress on the site, sometimes that hurts, so lay flat with your knees bent. Heat promotes circulation and will help the stitch desolve. It hurts like hell. My pain took about 2 weeks to pass. Keep heat on it. There's nothing else you can do. I'm sorry. I know what you're going through. Feel free to email me anytime. I'm 5 weeks out and the pain is finally gone.

I'm 10 weeks out w/ open rny. I'm having the same problem in the exact same place. Hurts if I move wrong or if I bend over, and if I wear tight clothes it irritates it too. The doc said it's part of the healing process. It's just nerves that are irritated, and as long as it doens't get red or inflamed or feels like a knot inside when you press it, it will be ok. He told me if it hurts very bad to put heat on it and take the liquid loratabs for it. If it doens't get better in 2 weeks to call back. I've been using heat and liquid tylenol, and that has made it bearable. I would call your doc though. Good luck and God bless! open rny 4/26/03 down 45 lbs
