Question:
I would like to hear from those of you who lost little or no weight the 1st month or

up to 6 weeks out. I understand that 25% of WLS patients don't lose any or very little the 1st few weeks out of the hospital. I'm 5 weeks out and would like to know your pattern of weight loss when you did start to lose the weight. What was the average each week. Did you keep hitting plateaus? And what was the biggest weight loss you had in a week, month, or even 2 months. What is your total loss as of now and when did you have the surgery? I need some reasurrance from those of you who know where I'm coming from. I get in all my protein and water. Very few carbs.Less than 10 per day. 750 calories per day most fat free. Hardly any fat in my meals. I'll check often and hope to see some good news. Thanks. RNY 8-13-03 loss 7 lbs since leaving the hospital.    — cinchouli (posted on September 15, 2003)

Stay off the scales. You will drive yourself crazy. I had my husband hide our because I'd pee and weigh myself it was getting stupid. You will lose weight. Your body has had a shock and may not have adjusted to the surgery yet. I lost nothing for 5 weeks than dropped 15 pounds in 2 weeks. Everyone will be different. The fact that you aren't losing weight is secondary. How do you FEEL? I have more energy. I wasn't as tired. I am still over 300# but feel better than I have in 8 years.

For me, exercising was key. I have evil fat genes that make my body able to live off of little calories. I have to workout, hard, 4-5 times a week. But now that I do, the weight is flying off!

I can relate to what you are saying, it is frustrating to have this surgery and then see the scale not really move!! I think you should pick one day a week to weigh yourself, and then only go back to the scale on that day or you'll go NUTS. In the first 10 days I lost 23 lbs, I am now 1 month post op, and the scale has still not moved, I think our bodies go into fight mode- we are taking in so little calories, that it is fighting to hold on to the fat that we have....in the end we will prevail!! good luck, and be patient, it took us along time to gain it all, expect it to take time to loosee it...jennio

I was 2 months post-op yesterday the 15th. The first 2 weeks I lost 18 pounds, but then hit a platue. I did manage to lose 24 by 6 weeks then basically nothing till this past week when I started excercising. I joined Curves and the weight is coming off steady. Yeah!!! I get approx. 55 grams of protein and have never managed to get in even 500 calories. I do try, but I just cant. Carbs very day to day, but my goal is not to go over 40. I like to keep them closer to 20. I also go to www.fitday.com now to keep track of my food and such. That with Curves is really going to make a differnce in my weight loss. Good luck!

Every month like clock work I plateau - for 3 weeks. The lat plateau lasted 4weeks. Even so, I am 5 mos post op and down 76lbs. Some months I lose more, some less. Best regards -
