Question:
Keeping one insurance, and signing up for new insurance to cover wls.

Can I keep my present health insurance through my employer - a family plan - and get an individual plan with another insurer that will cover my wls? Company plan won't cover wls -- new insurer will.    — mary G. (posted on October 13, 2003)

You are allowed to have more than one insurance. The questions arrise here is where are you purchainging your 'indivudual cover' private or thru your employer as an employee; ie. your on yours husbands (family) coverage and yours and an individual... Before you go out and BUY a seperate policy tho; first find out about 'pre existing clauses' and time frames; you could be looking at a 'years' wait before the insurance will pay for the WLS as a pre existing condition. Also, see how they coordinate benefits.. a few 'un-handed' insurances will cordinate saying if 'they pay 80%' and you have somone else payng 80% they will pay 'nothing' when most will pic up the 20%. Also you will have to find out whos primary. If your family plan is primary you will still have to submit all your claims to them first; before the second will process and pay. Good luck Just be sure to check on pre x - they may pay for wls; but you may have a year to wait.
