Protein is important after surgery because we are no longer able to eat
enough to support our bodies. Protein is an important function of basic
life. Without sufficient protein, our body will start foraging from
within, pulling from tissue. You will notice fatigue, hair loss,
forgetfullness, etc. Please dont hurt your body by neglecting this. You
should be taking a multi vit/min each day (chewables are good in the
beginning), a minimum of 500mg of B-12 each week (for neurological
function), and a minimum of 50-75 additional grams of protein per day (in
addition to whatever you are eating). Pro-Complex has a wonderful powder
that is easily absorbed by the body (minimal gass and cramping), and can be
purchased for a lot less at www.advantagesupplements.com than at GNC (about
1/2 the price!). My favorite recipie is 1 cup coffee flavored soy milk, 2
ice cubes, 2 scoops vanilla flavored protein powder...tastes just like a
Starbucks Frappachino! I am 2 1/2 years post-op, have successfully lost
160+ lbs, and STILL take a protein shake each day. Good luck on your WLS
journey! ~Tammara [email protected]
