Question:
Any women experience hot flashes after by-pass surgery?

I am 17 months post-op and only 37 years old and experiencing hot flashes. I have lost 144 pounds and weigh 115. I have not lost anymore since April. Does anyone have an answer?    — Lorraine R. (posted on June 24, 1999)

We attend several support groups. A LOT of both men & women experienced hormonal changes. It'd be worth your while to just get the simple blood test to check and see if everything is still in balance. One girl thought her HUSBAND had gone nuts. In actuality, it was her complete and utter lack of Interest. They just adjusted her with a pill and now she's back to chasing him around again!

i had symptoms, which i thought were hot flashes too,but after researching the subject,i have determined that MY symptoms(sudden hot feeling, extreme sweating, especially on the face, weakness etc.)more closely resemble a sudden drop in blood sugar.there isnt a whole lot that can be done, besides eating something sweet,or a squirt of glucose, but you should mention it to your doctor anyway.i asked my ob-gyn if i was having "hot flashes"and he said it was very unlikely.hope this helps a little.(im 1 yr post)

it takes a while sometimes ... no many times you will hit a plateau then drop more pounds later the key is patients....and persistance to work with what the doctor gave you now is the time to try a simple short diet perhaps one that you've tried in the past and were unsuccessful , just try it again ;) trust me

I had a major case of hot flashes 2nd day post - op, and I just couldn't sleep. Everyone told me it was normal till a month ago when my dr did a hormonal level check (I had a hyst. at 28 so didn't have any periods) and actually I was post -menapausal. I had it checked 3 mos. before surgery and it was fine. Everyone just sort of patted me on the head when I was complaining about hot flashes but they finally listened. Now taking estrogen and beside being hot it 100 degree weather I am so much better. Listen to your body! Love, Marcy
