I would think its good.. but perhaps you should check wiht a nutritionist to evaluate your total diet. That would be the best way to know if your protein intake needs to be what it is or even more or less. Good luck. Dawn

I met with my DR today and he said the rule is that for each meal you begin taking you should remove one shake. The only down side to keeping the shakes and the meals could be slower/no weight loss. You might be getting enough protein already - check with your dietician

At 9 months post-op (DS), I still drink a protein shake almost every day (for 35 grams of protein). I tend to eat a protein bar a couple of times a week as well. I like the freedom it gives me to eat what more of what I want, knowing that I have already had a big chunk of protein in the morning. I'll typically eat a cup of cottage cheese, and a large serving of meat during the day to get in a total of 90 grams or so. I know that Michelle Curran and her husband have also faithfully used multiple protein supplements each day for the past 5 years, with no side effects other than continued good health and blood work. - Kate -

I do 120-180g of protein supps per day, have for years. The result is better skin, stronger organs, cuts cravings to a minimum, weight holds steady, 2 colds in 6+ years, no other flus or misc "bugs", good labs, good healing from subsequent surgeries or even booboos--we've both had to have stitches from clumsiness. The supplement is not as hard on the organs to process as food proteins, so we are getting what we take in, no fats or sugars, lesser load on the whole organ structure, while feeding the tissues & organs. The only side effect of any negative value is that my teeth don't seem to be quite as white. BUT I might've messed that up by dinking around with the wrong kind of calcium supps. And it didn't make us any smarter, younger or less clumsy.

I am 18 mos post op and still take 2 protein shakes per day. For breakfast, I have a shake and 1/2 normal serving of oatmeal. For lunch, just the shake. Usually an afternoon snack of fruit, vegies, crackers, or whatever sounds good. Then a regular dinner including protein, veges, some fruit and a small carb. In the late evening I usually want another serving or two of fruit or veges. My labs were just done and are great. I also supplement my calcium, B-12,B complex, and Iron. I also add a bugs bunny multiple. This seems to work for me.
