Question:
How do I break a week ++long plateau?

Hello! 4 weeks out today. Quickly lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks. Walking, drinking 90 ounces of water per day, but, just cant seem to get in alot of protein. Is that the problem? I am scared I'm done losing already!!! Tell me it isn't so!!! Thanks.    — Kathy R. (posted on July 21, 2003)

Hi Kathy, At 4 weeks post-op that is a great loss so far, i have hit plenty of plateaus already, and I am only 6mths post-op. My doc told me that when you lose weight at a fast pace, your body needs time to adjust to the weight loss so that is why we hit plateaus. So it is not that you are not doing everything right, it is just that your body needs to rest inbetween loosing so fast! You'll be fine! Good Luck and keep up the good work!

I have been able to keep my plateaus to no more than 4 days by greatly reducing carbs (usually to no more than 10-15) and dramatically increasing my protein intake (from an average of 40-60 grams to about 70 grams per day). If I follow this regimine for a few days, the weight loss kicks in again. This has seemed to work for me as I have dropped over 230 pounds in nine months with about 20 more to lose before I reach my goal.
