Question:
Liquid Protein Drinks

Some of you have mentioned various liquid proteins. I could only find one of them at GNC. It was Challenge Liquid Protein (cherry flavored). I thought because it was cherry flavored I would put it in a diet Dr. Pepper. It is still foul! How does anyone drink any of these things? I can't stand the taste of most foods, and I know I'm getting less than 10 grams of protein a day. My weight loss has been at a "complete stop" for two weeks. I don't know if I pour it in a spoon, plug my nose, drink it and eat a cracker if it would take the taste away. I don't know what to do anymore. At this point I almost wish I never had the surgery. Because if I can't get the protein I may not lose anyway. Any ideas? Thanks.    — Danmark (posted on June 5, 2001)

Have you checked out Michelle's website? www.vitalady.com She has all sorts of protein and other vitamins listed on her site. She might also know of an alternative.

Daniel, I went to GNC and got a product by Pro Performance called Pure ION Exchange Whey Protein, it's in powder form, it is also unflavored. I mixed it with juice and carnation instant breakfast, you just have to use the blender, but it doesn't have any flavor at all. 120 cal per 1/2 cup, 0 fat, 0 carbs, 0 sugar and 30g protein. Good luck..

Well, I know where you are coming from. I have settled on Isopure dutch chocolate mixed with chocolate soy milk, as I am lactose intolerant since surgery. I drink it twice daily, 30 grams of protein each time. Best of all it is delicious. My daughter who is an athlete is also drinking it. My family thinks it tastes like YooHoo. Try Michelle's website as previously mentioned. Michelle has samples which will help you to decide what you like best. She is incredibly helpful!-------------------

Dear Daniel, I have found that the protein drinks are awful also. I started mixing chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar-free of course) and strawberry Designer Whey Protein (from GNC) with low fat skim milk, most often it is lactaid. I have found mixed this way, I can tolerate the taste. I try to get the rest of my protein from other sources the rest of the day. Hope that this helps.

There are lots of good-tasting protein supplements. Extreme Pure Pro tastes like Kool-aid or Crystal Light and comes either ready-mixed or in a powder (you can dilute either one to taste). My favorite "milkshake" protein is ProScore 100 chocolate. ProBlend 55 is a popular vanilla and their Mocha is said to be to die for, if you like coffee. Isopure is new and I've heard good things about it. Try to find one or more you like mixed with water or a no-calorie beverage such as Crystal Light or diet soda for best results. (If you mix these with juice or milk - even skim - you risk turning them into those "high calorie bevereges" which can defeat the surgery.) As others have suggested, you can get reasonably priced samples from Michelle at www.vitalady.com. Also, anything you buy at GNC and don't like can be returned with a receipt. You may need to try many of these to find one you like, but it is well worth the effort. Good luck.

I also use Extreme Pure Pro and also use Sci Fit's Whey complex plus in ice cream flavors. I like vanilla because I can put it in the blender with a banana and ice or with sugar free decaf International Foods coffees for a change of pace.

As I don't like any type of juice, I bought the Optimum Whey 100% Pure Protein from GNC. It comes in powder form (chocolate for me!) and I mix it with 8-10 oz. of water and ice. The colder the better. It really does taste good. I think its 22g of protein per 8oz serving.

The clear Isopure drinks are much better even than the Extreme pure pro. Ask GNC to order them for you, they are usually happy too. They need to be refrigerated, so you may need to find a GNC that carries chilled drinks. I got some at the Vitamin Shoppe, and have a weight lifter friend who's friend with a gym orders them for me for less than I found them anywhere on the internet. Keep searching! There is always a way. You can also add unflavored protein powder to other foods. I make oatmeal with a scoop of powder, don't even notice it. I still am on soft foods/puree so when I blend up soup I add some too. I know it's not the same as drinking 20-30g at one meal, because a batch of any of those foods makes four or five meals for me, but as a cumulative thing it helps. Good Luck!

Yes, the clear Isopure drinks are great... the full name is Perfect Zero Carb Isopure and it is made by Natures Best. I bought the Icy Orange and it is great. The entire bottle is 40 grams of protein... it tastes like an orange sweet tart. No sugar either. Sip a third of it at a time.. cold with a straw. I havent tried the other flavors but I believe there was a grape, fruit punch and a smurf colored blue. Go to a health food store near a gym that has a cooler full of cold bottled drinks... DO NOT BUY ANY OF THE ONES IN OPAQUE PLASTIC THAT YOU CANT SEE THROUGH... it is not see through for a reason...thick and gritty, just awful. The Isopure is in a clear glass bottle. It is expensive at around $3 a bottle but it is worth it. I also have a cannister of unflavored pure soy protein... I am sneaking a spoonful of it into yogurt or soup.

I found a WONDERFUL protein drink, i have never been able to drink slim fast, myoplex, or any of the other drinks. i did like the isopure...but TOO EXPENSIVE. I went to GNC and found "AMINO 2222 LIQUID" (Amino Acid Liquid Energy). The flavor is TROPICAL FRUIT PUNCH... Serving = 3 Tablespoons (it's like a syrup) Calories = 132 Protein = 22 grams Carbs = 10 grams Fat = less than 1 gram Cholesterol = 0 grams ++++ other amino acids, vitamins, minerals & lipotropics (whatever that is)... : ) i honestly haven't touched it too much since my surgery in March 2001, but after haveing MANY Plateaus & reading the responses on here.... i started DRINKING UP (as of tonight) i mixed it with some water and ice & it goes down well...getting two birds w/ one stone (PROTEIN & WATER) it is buy one get one 1/2 off or 32 oz, @ 22.99 GOOD LUCK TO ALL
