Question:
I'm almost 1 year post op but sometimes out of no where I wake up

in the morning with an awful pain in my stomach. It's hard to explain the feeling cause I never had them prior to surgery. But it constant and with the pain, I usually throw up just saliva. For the next several days I have a pain in my stomach from the dry heaves. I can't remember what I ate that might of cause it the day before and I don't think it's always the same. Happens about once a month. Any ideas what could be causing this. I haven't talked to my doctor for close to a year now. happens    — Silvana T. (posted on October 24, 2001)

Suggestion: start writing down everything you eat (which is what we should do anyway...but I don't). Maybe you can track your pains that way. Plus, I would call your doctor! Good luck.

Could it be an ulcer? You should really go to your doc and have him/er check it out... Doesnt your doc have a postop program? Suppport group? Get it checked out...take care for now..

sounds like an ulcer. I had that same problem right before my surgery. Dr prescribed protonix and i am on it now after surgery and it works good.

Check pancreatitis... I had a LAP RNY & GALLBLADDER removed on 8/28/01 by Dr. Rumbaut. Four weeks out I developed pancreatitis - OMG! I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy...(well, perhaps Osama bin Laden..) Anyway.. the potential causes of pancreatitis are: 1. alcohol abuse 2. gallbladder problems 3. abdominal trauma Well, I had BOTH 2&3! Was it RNY related? Dr. Rumbaut didn't seem to think so... My family doc said my gallbladder was in pretty bad shape and could have caused it, so who knows? I made a complete recovery after a week of hell. Two or three bites of candy or sweets causes "dumping" (cold sweats, weakness and nausua...a gentle reminder that sweets are NOT good for you!) It lasts for about 30 minutes. If I eat too fast or don't CHEW well enough, I get this "pill stuck in my throat" feeling. I can't drink right after I eat...causes the same feeling. That has happened to me twice. I would have some bloodwork done. Good luck!
