Question:
How would I rate my activity level?

This may seem like a silly question, but I really am having a hard time rating my activity level. I am able to eat close to 2000 calories a day at almost 11 mo. post op and really have to struggle to keep it around 1500, which I haven't been doing very successfully. I am trying to determine the maximum calories I can eat realistically and manage to loose my last 35lbs or so with my activity level. Caloric guidelines say 1600 for inactive woman and 2200 for active woman. I feel my mother-in-law is an inactive person being housebound with alot of cronic pain and limited mobility...I know I don't fall in that catagory...I walk aprox 2 miles 4-5 times a week in about a half hour, have been doing yard work and gardening...yet I don't really consider myself an "active" person either?? I work a 40 hr desk job. I am 5'2.5 tall weigh 172 and am 32. Is there a calculation I can do to find out what my max calorie intake should be for me to reach a goal weight of 145 or so? I have looked on the internet but can't seem to find a formula as specific as I would like. Where do you think my activity level falls? I know I need to subtract 500 calories a day (but from what amt) to loose a pound a week. I'd be happy with that. Sorry this is so rambling. Thanks for any input. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -110    — KimBo36 (posted on June 5, 2002)

I would guess that you must subtract the 500cal from the 2200 if you are as active as you say to loose 1 lb per week. You could try to track all your calories on fitday.com. So why not try 1700cal a day (don't forget to get in all your protein and water)for 2 weeks and see what you loose. Rember you should loose 2lbs. ___ Good Luck

Kim, there is an excellent breakdown on how many calories you should consume, or burn to lose a lb. of fat. www.hussman.org/fitness/deficit.htm It explains caloric deficit.
