Question:
Is my weight loss over?

I had my surgery 2/1/2002. Down about 70 pounds from 300 to 230. My weight has been at a standstill for the past 2 months or so. Is this a plateau, or am I done losing more weight? Can p;ateau's last this long?    — M H. (posted on August 31, 2002)

Plateaus are different for everyone. But they can be broken. Get out and exercise at least a hour a day of fast walking or whatever, keep up the water and protein. I lost almost 10 pounds at or near goal by helping a friend do demolition at his home. Drove my weight UNDER my chart weight. Thats what pulling down cielings and shoveling debris 5 hours every evening can do for you:) You could volunteer for habitat for humanity or something...

M, I had surgery a week after you and have lost 77 (2 of it this morning). No, you should not be at the end of your weight loss. You don't give enough information to help you though. How is your protein, and have you tried upping it for a week or so (adding an extra protein shake works for me). What about water? Are you getting enough in EVERY day? I struggle with that one. Carbs and sugars? Are they low? Are you getting in enough calories? Believe it or not, I have found when I eat more, I lose more. I try for 100-1300 calories a day. And exercise? In the beginning the weight flies off without exercise but after a while, the exercise is what keeps it going. Feel free to E-mail me and talk more.

I LOST ALOT FOR 6 MONTHS THEN VERY LITTLE. MY SURGEON TOLD ME THAT YOUR BODY ISN'T USE TO THE SMALL INTAKE OF FOOD BUT IT WILL ADJUST AND METABOLISM WILL ADJUST. YOU NORMALLY LOSE WEIGHT FOR 12-18 MONTHS, HE TOLD ME.

Your probably on a plateau. It happens to us all at different times. My doctor told me that I would lose for up to 18 months.
