Question:
Should we count the carbs and calories that are in our vitamines and calciums as part

of our normal daily intake? Does it really make much difference? My vit. chewables have 2gr. carbs and 15 cals. each and my calcium chews have 4gr. carbs and 20 cals. each. Just wondering what most of you do. Thanks in advance for anything you all can tell me. LapRNY 11/26/03 232/191/130    — Cindy P. (posted on February 11, 2004)

I don't think so. You mentioned calcuim chews. Are you using Viactiv? That is calcuim carbonate and it is so much better to use calcuim citrate. In fact we hardly absorb any of the calcuim carbonate. but your question is interesting. I never thought of that before.

If you are counting calories and carbs, then anything you put in your mouth should be counted. I agree with Delores, switch to calcium citrate-now. Too many developed early signs of osteoporosis from taking calcium carbonate and not citrate. Most surgeons recommend the citrate, but unfortunately not all of them.

I count the carbs in my vitamins and Calium Chews. I am not even close to 1200 calories a day yet - since I'm only 2-1/2 months Post-Op.
