Question:
Only 22.5 pounds in 16 days?

I'm a little over two weeks post-op. I'm a little bummed because I've only lost 22.5 pounds. I've been following what I think of as a good regimen: protein first, water, walking 30 minutes three times a week. I haven't cheated even once and don't overeat at meals. I don't really snack because food is kind of annoying to me now. What's going on? I started off at 307, so I'm not a lightweight. If anything, I'm thinking I'm not getting in enough food. My surgeon wants us to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day, except that the snacks (at this point, at least) are supposed to be skim milk. I hate milk, especially by itself, so I just skip it. Usually I get between 500-750 calories a day. Should I exercise more? Eat more? I really want to take advantage of my window!!!    — Phoebe J. (posted on May 15, 2002)

Ok... I'm going to be really harsh here... ... you're complaining? 22.5 pounds in 16 days? I realize we all want the best from this new tool.. but I think you're probably getting it. On anohter note... eventually your body will get used to that low amount of calories and you won't lose a thing. You probably need to up your calories with protein. That's my NON professional advice.. but you should ask your doctor.. or support group.. 22.5 pounds in 16 days is fantastic... I wouldn't complain about it myself.

Pheobe, PLEASE think about what you've just said!!!!!!! You've lost over TWENTY pounds, in TWO WEEKS!! Rejoice girl!! Not to mention you're two weeks post op from MAJOR MAJOR surgery! I started out 200 lbs above you and lost about the same... Congradulations!!! You might want to up the calories a little, but ask your Dr or nutritionist (sp) about a diet menu and what they recommend. It sounds to me that you're doing just fine! :) Good luck on your journey :)

YOU ARE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF! THAT IS EXCELLENT WEIGHT LOSS FOR 2 WEEKS! I AM 13 DAYS POST-OP AND HAVE LOST 15 POUNDS - I AM SO EXCITED, EVEN FOR ME! IT'S BETTER THAN "GAINING" WEIGHT, HUH! WE ARE SO NEW AT THIS AND CAN'T BEAT OURSELVES UP OVER THIS--IN THE WORDS OF SOMEONE SOMEWHERE: YOU DIDN'T PUT THIS WEIGHT ON OVERNIGHT, SO YOU CAN'T EXPECT TO LOSE IT OVERNIGHT. KEEP EXERCISING AND EATING YOUR FOODS--AND I'LL DO THE SAME! TAKE CARE - BE HAPPY!

That is three (3) five-pound bags of potatos !! Think about that...how easily & comfortably could you carry around three bags of five-pound bags of potatoes? I can hardly wait to get to 50-pounds out - I'll be thinking in terms of a 50-pound thing of dog food. That's a lot of weight - 2 newborns in that length of time. Congratulations with your loss - I too think your doing awesome.

ONLY!? First off- how long did it take you to get to 307lbs? I am sure it wasn't in two weeks; and it won't come off in two weeks. I am curious to know what you expected to lose in just two weeks? Do the math: http://www.hussman.org/fitness/deficit.htm

You are doing Great. Do not compare yourself to anyone but yourself. I lost 21 lbs in 3 weeks post op and my surgeon was quite happy with the 1 lb per day. yes, my surgeon also insists on me eating 6 small meals per day with about 130 calories in each one. I too do not like to drink milk. Try Fat Free yogurts, like yoplait, they are cold and creamy and they never made me feel ill. They are a wonderful source of protein and it's not milk. Keep doing what you are doing! These first weeks are building new habits so just try to roll along with it when it seems crazy!! Love, Becky !!!

Thanks, everyone! I needed a little perspective. Now if I can just throw my scale out, I'll be fine!!!
