Question:
How do you get insurance to pay for any kind of PS?

I am almost positive I will need a TT, a breast lift, and batwings removed. How do you submit it to the insurance as medically necessary?    — Sherry Y. (posted on September 12, 2002)

Hi Sherry, from what I've been told and found out from researching , is that unless your skin makes your life horrid, or affects you to the point of rashes, or makes clothing hard to find or activities hard to do, they won't cover it. My insurance company requires, documentation of the unbearable like severe rashes, etc.etc.., which my hanging skin hasn't caused me. Yes it's emabarrassing, and I hate to look at it, but it doesn't make my life harder, just uglier. But the best thing to do is to find out what your insurance requires, they may just shock you and cover some reconstructive surgery.

Hi Sherri, My insurance (Aetna) states in their policy that they cover plastic surgery for a TT when the panni or "apron" hangs below the pubis OR if one has suffered from a hernia as a result of the tummy being too heavy. Your surgeon's office can tell you if you have these problems.
