Question:
Is my weight loss done??

Ok, I am getting VERY nervous!! I am three months post op and I have lost 30 lbs. I am very happy with my progress so far, but I haven't lost any weight in three weeks and I am getting concerned. I started my WLS journey at 179 (I am very short....so dont freak) and my goal is 115 so I am half way there!! I alot drinking decaf tea so I know I am getting in my water. I am also getting in my protein and staying below 30 grams of carbs a day. I eat around 700 calories a day plus I just started exercising last week (walking 30 minutes a day) so I think I am doing everything right. Any suggestions?? Does it sound like I am on track?? I am getting nervous that I am done.    — S A. (posted on September 8, 2003)

You didn't say how short you are...it seems the less weight you have to lose, the slower it goes. Also, I wonder if you are eating ENOUGH? 700 cals a day isn't much. Maybe try eating more frequently..and stick to the lo-carbs. Good luck to you!

Go by the percentages. You are 50% of the way there in 3 months. I think that you are right on target. I am 8 months out almost and have lost 86% of my excess weight with about 15 pounds to go.

Relax, your body has to play "catch up". I plateau for 3 weeks out of EVERY 4. After 5 mos, I can actually mark on a celndar when I will lose weight. You are doing good!!! Best wishes -

Hi Sondra, Adding the exercise should start to help but it will take some time. You may even see the weight loss sit for a little as you start to build muscle but eventually that muscle will turn your body into an efficient fat burner. <p>I had to go read your profile when I saw what your pre-op weight was. I assume you must have had some pretty serious co-morbs since you were approved at a 36.1 BMI. I certainly hope this resolves whatever health problems you had. I would have blown up also the day of surgery after everyone being on your case, but do realize that it is VERY rare that someone who only has 60-70 lbs to lose is a candidate for this surgery. You are very likely going to lose much slower than someone who has 100+ lbs to lose, so be patient and follow you post-op plan. Persoanlly for your size, I do not think that 700 calories is too little, as some have indicated, and it is high enough to keep you out of starvation mode. Maybe try varying it though. Mix things up to see if that helps. Keep following your plan and it will come off in time. Enjoy your new health.

I am a very slow loser too. Hang in there and the weight will slowly come off. I started at 247 and I'm 5'8, I am 5 months out and have lost 67 pounds. I lost most of my weight my 3rd and 4th month out, so be patient it will come off.

Be patient it will happen! That is what everyone tells me... and I get frustrated and worried that it will not happen. I lost around 30 lbs the first month and have been sitting still for the past 2 weeks. They say sometimes women only lose weight at certain times of the month. WHATEVER! I feel like surgery is such a DRASTIC step to have such slow weight loss for some of us... and then I worry that maybe some of us have had better surgeon's than others. I don't know... but at least you have the "rules" down pat. That is the good news! What else can you do but follow the rules and pray for the BEST! That is what I am doing. Are you losing inches? My scale has not moved but I "look" different. God Bless you in your Journey.

Seems like you should be eating around a thousand callories by now... perhaps 1,200 tops. Your body may be in starvation mode on so few callories.
