Question:
Is it possible to plateau at 15 days post op? Worse is it possible to gain 3 pounds?

I'm so depressed I can't stand it. I was consistently loosing a pound a day and then boom, I stopped on the 15th day! Then I gained 3 pounds!!!! What's up with that, I'm trying so hard not to consider myself a failure at this. I'm trying. I walk every single day in the park, and although I try to eat 5-6 meals a day, I can only get through 2 or 3. I drink water like crazy because I'm so thirsty. I also get my protein in. Please, someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I don't want my WLS to be a failure at only 11 pounds lost. I'm almost ashamed to see my surgeon on Monday for my first post op appt. What should I be doing, eating? Any words of encouragement or similar stories would be greatly appreciated! Thanks    — corpdiva2006 (posted on March 4, 2001)

Honey, relax and hold tight. You are doing great. Your weight is going to come off so fast over the next few months that you won't believe it. I had my surgery in Oct and lost 50 lbs of water weight during my 10 days in the hospital. I was heart broken when I gained back about 10 lbs within 2 weeks after my discharge. I'm a little over 4 months now and have lost 100lbs. We do hit those plataus and our weight will fluctuate a few lbs here and there. But the weight loss will be a lot better than our small adjustments(not set backs but adjustments). Your body is still trying to recover from the shock of surgery and a sudden weight loss. Just keep doing the things you are doing and you will be fine. Hugs, Jan

I am 5 weeks post op and I experienced it at two weeks and just now am starting to loose again. Don't worry, its your body trying to adjust. I have heard from others that after they were back to normal routine and or work the pounds just started falling off again. I understand we will hit many plateaus with this process. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Hang in there Adrienne!! I hit a plateau at 6 weeks and stayed there over a month. It was very discouraging. I am now 4 months post op and have lost 57 pounds and have 43 to go till I reach goal. I know it seems like this plateau is endless but it will end!! Every day that I was stuck in mine I just reminded myself that 700 calories a day won't sustain 200 pounds and it takes 1600 calories a day to sustain 120 pounds. It sort of put things in perspective for me. Everyone is real proud of you and you're going to make it!!
