Question:
I am 6 weeks post DS. I am not eating much at all but I

not lost any weight in about 3 weeks. Is my 30 pounds going to be it? I read all the info on plateaus and am open to any new suggestions. This is really discouraging. Help?    — [Anonymous] (posted on December 8, 2001)

I had lost 31 pounds at 6 weeks, but I'm 3 months out now and I've lost 57 pounds. Try eating a high fat meal. It works for me--cleans me out and I lose 2 or 3 pounds right away.

You just answered your own question when you said "You're not eating much". If you're not eating enough and especially if you're not getting in that 60-80gms of protein, your body is going to think you're starving it and it's going to hold onto every pound that it can. Make sure you're getting in 40-64oz of fluid and 60-80 gms of protein. You may need to supplement the protein if you can't eat that much yet, but it's important you try since your body will work against you if you are starving it or it thinks you're starving it.

You may be retaining water...a couple of things: like the previous poster said, you need to be eating about 1200 calories, PROTEIN FIRST (60 grams/day). (Not eating enough protein will have you retain water.) Then, be sure you are driniking plenty of water and not much sodium or salt. Your body is simply adjusting to the 'conditions of famine' that it thinks it is in...don't worry, you are not going to be the first and only person that the DS doesn't work for. This is a temporary phase. Hang in there.

You're doing great! 30 pounds is awesome! At this point, water & protein are the key. keep sipping your water and nibbling on protein...The loss will pick up again, guaranteed!! (http://www.myWLS.com)
