Question:
After the surgery will blood clots be a risk?

I know that you have to keep your legs elevated after surgery for like six weeks and keep standing and walking to prevent blood clots but will they be a risk for you after your surgery? But what about months later? Will I still be at risk, or will I never be able to sit for long periods of time without having to worry about blood clots?    — Miko P. (posted on January 16, 2002)

You are of course at risk of blood clots for a short time after surgery. Unless you are prone to clots you should not have to worry long term. My doctor gave me a shot everyday in the hospital and told me that would be plenty. I had several surgeries in my lifetime so he was not to worried.
