Question:
I believe there may be food stuck in my stomach

I went to dinner last night and had a little beef for the first time (9 weeks post op). A few hours later I started having pain in my stomach, especially after I tried drinking something. I had rny with silastic ring. I tried to make my self vomit but was unsuccessful. Will it pass by it self or should I try some ipecac syrup (gross I know). I really don't want to go in to the doctor but if I have to I will. Any help is greatly appreciated.    — M. S. (posted on April 13, 2002)

I may be wrong, but I believe I heard meat tenderizer will do the trick in getting food broken down enough to pass. Search the library on this site, I'm sure there will be something about this subject. Good luck!

The previous poster is correct - my doctor told me to put some meat tenderizer in a small glass of water and drink it. It will eventually break down the blockage and let it pass through. Haven't had to use this yet, so can't give you any idea of what it tastes like. Good luck!
