Question:
Has anyone with Crohn's had this Surgery?

I have Crohn's disease and I am considering the surgery. I am wondering if anyone can share some info with me on this topic? I am seeing my Gasto next week to see how he feels about it. I have heard that some people got better with it?    — Deb H. (posted on May 31, 2002)

Hi Deb, I have ulcerative colitis. Not as severe as yours, but similar. I was told that is would not be a problem. I did have a flare up 3 or 4 weeks after surgery. Gastro says probably from the stress. I am doing great now and glad I had the surgery! Good Luck, Donna

Hi: I had open RNY 9 mos ago and it was then that my surgeon discovered that I have Chrons disease. I am so thankful that I had open, because if I would have had LAP, they would never have discovered this disease. My surgeon said that this surgery actually would help my Chrons disease. I have NO symptoms at all since my surgery, but before my surgery, what I thought was IBS was actually my Chrons disease. No more of those awful stomach aches(yippeee)!!!! Hope this helps....but talk with your surgeon, he can give you better insight... GOOD LUCK!!!
