Question:
How much should a 5'2 woman weigh?

I'm just trying to see how much over 100lbs I am over weight. LOL (I only laugh to keep from crying. ) — ag21al (posted on July 10, 2002)

According to a Body Mass Index (BMI) chart someone who is 5'2" would be in the "normal" weight range if they weighed between 101 lbs and 136 lbs. Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey.

I am 5'2" also, I had rny surgery 10 months ago and have lost 120 pounds... yeah!!! I went in at 264 pounds which some people refer to as a light weight but most likely they aren't 5'2" tall!! Height makes a hugh difference. My ideal weight according to the charts is aprox 126, I am at 144 pounds now and I am not so sure that I want to get down that low. I am beginning to get too thin in some areas but then exercise would most likely help move the weight around to the right areas. I have had a hernia repair and a hysterectomy in the past 10 months so I haven't been able to exercise much. E-mail me if you have questions or need support. Gook luck and God bless you!

I am 5'1 and weigh 213 currently (down from 227 after being on a supervised diet since Christmas). I haven't been approved for sugery YET but my goal weight is 107. I would even be happy with 115 lbs. I have very tiny bones. Also my mom is 108 lbs and my sister is 100 lbs. It really depends on your bone structure. Hope this helps!!! Take care and good luck!!

More than bone structure, the answer lies in your lean body mass (LBM). Your LBM is the combination of all the best stuff in your body--bones, muscles, and the organs you need to function. You can find your lean body mass by calculating your percent body fat. www.zoneperfect.com has a good calculator that only requires your weight, height, and hip/abdominal measurements.
Once you get your percent body fat, you subtract it from 100 and multiply that percentage as a decimal by your current weight.
For example 25% body fat = 75% lean = 0.75 as a decimal || with a weight of 200 lbs, that would be a LBM of 200 x 0.75 = 150.
That is your LBM in pounds. You don't want to lose much of that weight as that is the GOOD stuff! I used to have 107 pounds LBM, but am now down to 100 cuz I haven't worked out in a while. If I have 100 pounds of good stuff, 107 pounds as a goal won't work for me because then I have an unhealthy amount of body fat.
I currently weigh 130 with a percent body fat of 24%. That is smack dab in the middle of acceptible for a woman my age (22-27 is the healthy range) and I am happy wearing a 6/8P and smalls. BTW, I am 5'2", too!

BTW, if anybody wants help calculating their LBM, I have a spreadsheet (Excel) that does it and even shows top and bottom goals for the acceptible body fat range.
