Question:
Slow Loss @ Six Months Out, Anyone Else?

I am almost 7 months post op and the loss has slowed to a crawl. I barely lost 3 or 4 pounds this month. I am so worried that it will stop completely. I still have 40 pounds that I need to loose. I am making changes in my diet, water intake and exercise to try to jump start my loss again. Any more suggestions??? Thanks!    — Kelly C. (posted on February 8, 2003)

Kelly- I seem to be having the same problem. I had my open RNY 7/23/02. My weight loss has started crawling as well. It seems that I lose a pound and then it stays there for WEEKS before moving again. I was averaging 10-15 pounds a month, but now it seems more like 4-5. I have also decided to up my water intake and exercise. I have to admit, I haven't been very diligent on either of those things. I made a new rule to myself that I had to drink 20 ounces of water everytime I feel like eating...and then if I am still hungry, I will eat. This keeps me from grazing and eating too much and also gets a lot of water in each day. As far as the exercise goes, I am starting a new program that includes lap swimming 3x a week for 45 minutes, and 2 miles a day of brisk walking. I have also decided to add some weight training in there to build some muscle. I have about 40-45 more pounds I want to lose as well. And I sure would like to be there by my one year anniversary. I think we get spoiled that the weight falls off so quickly to begin with and then when it slows down we get discouraged. Know that you are NOT alone! If you want to read more about me, you can go to my website. Good Luck!! (open RNY 7/23/02 -112 lbs)

Kelly, it was bound to happen. The loss does slow down, even at this point, for some. You've lost alot of weight in 7 months and your body is just slowing it down some. You won't stop losing and still have a good year left to lose that 40 pounds. I'm at the 1 year post-op mark and it gets more frustrating-I'd take that 4-5 a month! As you get closer to your final goal, the slower it gets. But if we continue to follow Pouch rules, tons of water, EXERCISE and eat frequent protein based meals, it will come off.
