Question:
I am 10 weeks postop with PCOS, I have only lost 50 lbs,

I fear that pcos is slowing my weightloss. I started at 337 now 287. I already eat low carb, but it is not coming off fast enough. If I add glucophage which I was taking before surgery, help to speed my weightloss. — Lisa G. (posted on August 25, 2003)

Lisa-- Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist before you do anything. There isn't any info on your profile page and you haven't provided any additional info in your question, so I can't really answer your question. That said, are you drinking enough water? What do you do for exercise? Are you eating enough? Your body may be in starvation mode and if it is, it won't give up anything. Can you give us some more info?

I think your weight loss is normal, regardless of PCOS. 50lbs in 10 weeks is amazingly great. I lost 90 TOTAL in six months. So, why do you think this is not fast enough? Are you comparing yourself to others; as we all lose at different speeds! Exactly how much weight did you expect to lose in 10 weeks? You really cannot answer a question like that- as there is no 'normal' answer. You see, perhaps it is not coming off fast ENOUGH FOR YOU; but fast enough for your body size/and what size you will eventually end up to be. Another thing- if you were taking Glucophage before surgery- why did you quit it? Did your Endo say to?

Lisa~~ first of all, Congrats on your weight loss! I also have PCOS and I am 4 months post op... at 10 weeks, I had lost 56 lbs (I started at 313lbs). For me, I don't think 50 lbs in 10 weeks is losing slow! When was the last time you lost 50 lbs in just over 2 months?
I agree with the previous poster that you didnt give us much info to work with... but as far as my PCOS and weight loss, I don't think its having any effect.
Good Luck! ~~Wendy D, RNY 4/23/03, -87lbs~~

I am wondering how much you thought you would lose in 10 weeks? Is someone telling you that that is slow? I think you are right on track. I had lost 50 at 10 weeks and at 7 months I am down 105+ with less than 20 to go.

Lisa...Are you high? LOL I am a few days from being 7 weeks out and have lost 36lbs. and frankly, I am happy about that! 50 lbs???? in 10 weeks? That is 1.4 lbs. a DAY! When is the last time you did that on any diet, or surgical procedure? Be grateful, you are ROCKING!
