Question:
Can throwing up stretch the pouch?

I saw my doctor two weeks ago for my 6 month check up (I am down 85 pounds YAY) and mentioned to him while I don't throw up regularly I seem to go through periods where it still happens. I am watching for reasons (not chewing enough, types of food)/ He mentioned to me that throwing up is one thing that will stretch the pouch and now I am extremely worried. Today I had some ham and needed to throw up badly but was so worried I kept fighting it as long as I could, in the end I still had to throw up. I have never heard about throwing up causing the pouch to stretch but was wondering what others have heard. Thanks. Cindy    — Cindy M. (posted on December 30, 2003)

I have not heard that one either, so will be interested in what others have to say. I will pose that question to my surgeon also, but I find it hard to believe. Constant overstuffing/overeating is what stretches the pouch abnormally. The pouch does stretch on its own over time as it is supposed to do...

I suppose if his theory is that you are throwing up beause of over stuffing your pouch that could be true, but if you are just eating things that disagree with you I doubt it would happen!
