Question:
I want to know why.....

I only eat a few bites of food at a time,3 times a day. If I eat something that doesn't agree with me & comes back up,it is ALOT. Sometimes I throw up over a cup of liquid in a few minutes. What is it & where does it come from? I don't understand why so much comes up if hardly anything went down to begin with. Please advise!    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 5, 2000)

If you are not eating too fast or drinking liquids too fast, you may have some built up scar tissue that could be preventing the liquids and foods to get to the new stomach/pouch; you should not be able to vomit once the food gets through the new pouch. So, if you feel like you are not eating too fast or drinking too fast, you need to contact your doctor regarding the difficulties you are having, if it is scar tissue interferring, your dr. can stretch this out and you will be able to keep "stuff" down and feel a little more normal.

If you can't hold anything down and the additional "stuff" that comes up is similar to mucus, it's highly probable that your stoma has narrowed and you need an endoscopy to dilate it. It's easy to become dehydrated, so be careful, and call your surgeon pronto! Best wishes.
