Question:
Question is very personal in nature about loose skin in genital area.....

My husband and I were reading about plastic surgery after wt loss and found several postings about loose skin hanging in the genital area on women after losing weight. It was pretty disturbing to me and he just looked surprised to hear that some women have to have plastic surgery on the vulva and genital area. Some stated the skin just hanged there like a ball. I don't have this problem now...will I have it after surgery. I am having open RNY in one month and this almost makes me change my mind!! Although I believe I have to have this surgery, this is disturbing. How many of you have this problem? I cannot sleep tonight for this question is on my mind. Will it take a gynecologist to answer this one??? I guess I just thought my body would be beautiful after surgery. Does anyone think their bodies are beautiful following wt loss surgery?    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 21, 2000)

My bariatric surgeon did my tuck when I was 5# from goal wt. He pulls EVERYTHING tight, from anywhere near the area. Tight, tight, tight. He pulls to the left, to the right, down and UP. So, yes, even THAT has been refreshed. Considerably!

No one really knows ahead of time what we will be like after we lose our weight. I carried most of my weight in my hips and thighs, not my stomach, so I don't have an overhanging stomach or loose genital skin or anything like that. I have some loose skin on my upper abdomen but it isn't bad and no one really notices it but me. My inner thighs are a problem, but that is why God created Capri pants. I do need a breast lift and will do that sometime in the next year. I have had the loose skin on my arms removed already. I am working out with weights and hope that much of the losse skin on my thighs will resolve itself. But I am 51 and so can't really expect miracles. Considering all of this, do I think my body is beautiful following my weight loss? That is a great question. I guess I'd have to say (at the risk of seeming vain) yes. I am pretty happy with the way I look. Oh, I look in the mirror once in a while and think "Wish this was a little tighter" or "Boy, I'd like to get that fixed," but on the whole I am happy. And so is my husband! Don't let fear steal your hope and joy. So much depends on your age, where you carry your weight, the condition of your skin, and how much weight you have to lose. I say go for it! blessings, Ann RNY 9/10/99 260/130

I,ve lost 78 lbs. so far and I,m 50 years old. I think I look pretty darn good (and so does my Husband!)I will have a tummy tuck , probably this spring , but only because I have a hernia. I really would not dream of having anything else done had it not been for the hernia. As for not being able to sleep because of this , If I had to regain that 78 lbs the thought of how ugly I looked would keep me up at night!!Dose anyone think their bodies are beautiful after WLS You better believe this chic does , scars , loose skin and all!! Now go to sleep , and have pleasant dreams of a beautiful new you.

Hello, I had VBG in March and have lost 90 lbs. I do not have this problem. As a matter of fact, if anything, I have a lot LESS fat/skin there now. I notice that some of my jeans rub there when I did not have that problem before. Hope this helps to dismiss your fears!
