Question:
surgery a failure? Is there any other hope available?

Last year in july 2000. I had surgery.I started off at 287 lbs at 5:1 . I had had several other abdominal surgeries in the past 20 years including a stomic stapeling back in 1976.My surgeon told me honestly he would do the best he could to perform a succesful surgery. He had a hard time with my surgery, due to all the scar tissue he had to deal with. When he finally was able to start doing the procedure he ended up having to hook me up differntly than others he had done surgery on. He told me after the surgery he might have to do surgery again in 1 year if it wasent succesful. It has been 11 months and I lost 40 lbs the first 3 months. And up until april had not gained any nor lost any. My fear is that people say insurance will not cover a second surgery? The other problem is my surgeon has moved away and is 6-8 hours away from where I live. He is the only one who knows what a mess I have inside? I feel so hopeless at the moment. Am I the only one who this has happened to? I see the people who had the surgery about the same time I did and they feel and look great.Does anyone have any ideas about the insurance or anything else for that matter. Please help, it's driving me crazy. There has to be someone who knows? Thanks for listening.    — christine W. (posted on June 20, 2001)

BMI wise you still qualify, so insurance shoul approve you for a revision. I would contact the surgeon and see what he can do, and you could also consider a different surgery like DS.
