Question:
Can I expect my skin to clear post-op?

When I was a teen I never had more than a songle pimple at a time. Now though I am expeiencing constant acne. It gets worse around my time of the month but is still there throughout the rest of the month. What are the chances it will clear after surgery and what is causing me to have it now? Thanks for your help    — Crystal D. (posted on July 29, 2001)

Hi and Good question. I am down 101 lbs now since surgery Jan 15,2001.....wwwooowwww. Anyways I always had OILY skin and hair. very very bad. I would buy oil free makeup and still by mid morning when I touched my face the grease was on my fingers.. yulk......and my skin was blotchy type, dry red patches... and I had pimples too. Now my complication is clear and I dont need oil free makeup. and I have a radiance glow to my skin. Everyone compliments me how refreshed my skin even at 330pm..... I guess the reason my skin was so oily was because of the HIGH FAT CONTENT THAT I INHALED ON A DAILY bases that it had to leave my body somehow and thru the face and hair it came. My hair even had a funk smell to it before between the sweat and oil no wonder I was taking 2-3 baths a day to stay fresh. oh well that god that is just a memory now. may god bless you and remember dreams do come true for those who believes Jay

No one can tell you for sure what will happen to YOUR skin, but I have had a wonderful improvement in my complexion. I used to get a lot of "that time of the month" acne also. Now, it's practically nonexistent for me.

I'm fairly sure that fat increases estrogen levels. I know this is the case for me, I'm having irregular periods and such, and I brought it up with my doctor, discussing that possiblity because of the fat/estrogen relationship, and she agreed. If your horemones are out of whack, acne is a definite side effect. I would say that post op, this will go away (but you should probably talk to your doctor anyway, etc).
