Question:
Does anyone know of a good wls cooperative internist insisting on a cardiologist

Grand rapids, Mi??? My surgeon who is across the state is insisting on a Cardiologist clearance prior to my DS. My internist thinks he can do this and is resisting giving me a referral. If he is being this uncooperative now, How will he work with me and my surgeon post op? Any recommendations would be appreciated. thanks    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 30, 2001)

Hi, I am wondering if your primary care physician is resisting your wls altogether, or just the referral? I think any doctor that has your health in mind first and foremost would WANT you to have every test within reason done by a specialist in that particular field. I personally would trust my pcp to do any test he felt comfortable with...however, I trust that because I know he would refer me if need be. If your pcp won't refer you, can you get the surgeon to do so? Even if he is across state, he should still have a network of physicians he could use in a referral situation. Good luck!

Meant to add to my answer, also, that your surgeon might be able to refer you to a pcp that would be great with follow-ups for wls patients.
