Question:
Ok, I am almost 7 months post op and have lost 92 pounds. I was doing so good this

past week with weightloss. I was on a plateau for weeks and upped my water and protien and I lost 6 pounds in less than a week. Now I totally jeopardized that. I have been craving for chocolate lately and told my hubby to buy me a box of chocolates for valentines day. So he did (expecting to eat it himself) and I cannot stop eating them. I had like 5 pieces last night and another 5 today. I looked at the calories and it said 200 calories for three pieces. OMG! I don't know what is going through my mind. I don't dump anymore either. I feel the same guilt that I used to feel before I had this surgery. I think that is the worst part. What do you do to satisfy your sweet tooth? I need some advice. Please don't bash me here. I know this surgery is a "tool" and blah, blah, blah. I am asking for advice, not to be critized. Any suggestions?    — Dawn H. (posted on February 15, 2002)

Try sugar-free popsicles or a sugar free hard candy. I buy Anna's Swedish cookies. They are extremely thin and crisp and have a very low sugar content (like 7 grams for 7 cookies) and the calorie content is 130 for 7 cookies and I usually only eat 2 or 3 every couple of days. They come in about 8 different flavors. Sugar free Jello gelletin or pudding with fat free Cool Whip. Sugar free applesauce. Sugar free, fat free Swiss Miss cocoa mix. But, my favorite is the sugar free popsicles. They count as a water too. And, you can make your own from Crystal Light or sugar free Koolade (sp?).

Dawn, Valentine's day is once a year. Don't beat yourself up. Enjoy the treats your husband bought and don't purchase anymore when they are gone. That way you can't keep eating things you shouldn't. That happened to me w/a can of Pringle's potato chips. Thought I would just eat a few. A half of a can later I realized how many I had eaten, wasn't full and hadn't dumped(I don't dump). I threw the can away and vowed never to buy anymore. That was a month ago, I haven't bought anymore yet and the weight loss is fine. Your weight loss is great and remember you are HUMAN, not perfect and not a robot. Life and weight loss will not end due to occasional oopsies! Have a great week!

If you have a Trader Joes' where you live- they have a "NO PUDGE FUDGE BROWNIE MIX"- You mix it with non fat yogurt- it is pretty good for being non fat- just an idea *~*

Be careful, because you are stepping back into "dieting mentality," and, as we all know, dieting DOES NOT WORK. My opinion: once a year on Valentine's day, eat your 5 chocolates, enjoy them, feel good about treating yourself and forgive yourself for blowing a few hundred extra calories. NO BIG DEAL. Trust your surgery, that it will keep you thin, even if you're occasionally weak.
