Question:
I am getting ready to have the RNY open. In stocking up my pantry, what

do I need to stock up on besides, jello, broth, popcicles and crystal light?    — Judy W. (posted on May 8, 2002)

Every surgeon's diet is different, but here's what I ate right after surgery: LOTS of cream of whatever soups (chicken, mushroom, potatoe, etc) but they MUST be strained. Sugar free pudding, milk, yogurt (no sugar added, fat free). Make sure the jello you buy is sugar free. And the yogurt my dietitian recommends is Yoplait in the blue containers because it is fat free with no added sugar. I hope this helps!

When I got home I ate yogurt, chicken broth, mashed butternut squash, sugar free jello. It's okay to stock up a little but don't go overboard like I did because you will soon get sick of it and don't forget, you can't eat more then a couple oz. I ended up throwing out most of my yogurt because I was sick of it. So don't waste your money stocking up too much.

Like the others I recommend cream soups, SF pudding. I stocked up on baby food for the pureed phase but it was so gross I couldn't even stand it.

Don't forget the cottage cheese! I didn't like it pre-op, but postop it is my favorite treat!

Hi. Don't forget the Gatorade. It was about the only thing I could consistantly get down for the first 10 days. And de-caffinated tea bags. A soothing cup of hot tea at night helped me to sleep. Good Luck!
