When I was one week post-op I did not sleep for 3 straight nights and I know how you feel. I was absolutely miserable. I suggest you call your doctor and tell him. That is what I did and I finally started sleeping alittle more every night. He gave me Darvocet(I think). Although I am now alittle over 3 months post-op I still do not sleep as good as I use to. I guess I do not require as much sleep anymore. Good Luck to you

I agree with the previous post. Call and ask your doctor. You will probably be able to take it only you will have to crush it first. Did he give you any liquid pain meds post op?? If so, just take a dose of it before bedtime. I took Tylenol PM and it made my arms feel really WEIRD. Didn't get any sleep that night. Happened to a friend of mine too that is a post op when she took Tylenol PM. The sleeplessness will go away eventually.

Susan, I was told that I could take any Tylenol product, however at 1 week post-op, your doctor may be able to prescribe something stronger for the short term. Also, at this stage, liquid medication is best-much better than crushing those pills!

Susan, the only time I took a Percocet in the hospital (after the IV's were out), I got a terrible headache from it. Although I filled the prescription at home post op, I never took one. My doctod ok'ed Tylenol PM, and I used it twice that first week without any problem.

Check with your doc, but I don't see a problem with Tylenol PM. However, if you're still having post-op incisional pain, there may be something brewing that needs checked. I couldn't lay flat for nearly 3 weeks post-op, but after that I slept like a baby-and still do. No more snoring and I feel much more rested now that I'm down 80#. Good Luck, Diane N.

I took ambien (prescription) both pre and post op. It's good stuff. I did have to crush it for the first few weeks post op tho. All of my crushed pills tasted nasty, no matter what I mixed them with, but I did find rinsing my mouth several times with apple juice or another strong flavored drink and spitting it out helped.

Do you still have any of your pain meds? My doctor advised I take that instead of the Tylenol....He advised me at 6 weeks I could start taking Tylenol Liquid for headaches and stuff. Always best to check with your doctor.

I had the exact same problem - I would take the pain medicine just to sleep but even w/that I wouldn't sleep more than two hours. I called my doctors office and asked about tylenol pm and they had no problem with it. I'd check with your doctor first - simply because each doctor has their own way to doing things.
