Question:
I have a weird, radiating pain in my side...

If feels like it is "behind" (inside my chest cavity) my ribs and breast on the left side... and it radiates to my back. It is constant. I thought it my be my posture, or my office chair, but it is everywhere I sit, and when I walk. It only lets up when I lie down. Tylenol is not helping at all. It seems to be getting worse everyday, and hurts more when I breath deeply. The only exercise I have been getting in the last week has been walking, so I am pretty sure it is not a pulled muscle. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks- Shelli. BTW, I am 14 weeks post-op, -62 (#202).    — kultgirl (posted on July 25, 2002)

I have pulled my (what I call) 'boob muscle' before- and it hurts! It does radiate from my breast- through to my back. It doesn't hurt when I physically hold up my boob (but you really can't walk around doing THAT! People start asking questions!) or when I lie down. I took a muscle relaxer and it helped a great deal, by the next day- the pain was definitly improved and it was gone by day 2. But is WAS very painful and hard to describe- like you say.

Shelli, do you still have your gallbladder? If so, this pain sounds very familiar. I'd have it checked.

Actually, I do still have my gallbladder, and I definitely have gallstones... they showed up on a pre-op ultrasound. Why I still have my gallbladder is kind of complicated (old surgeries, scar tissue, etc.). But I have had an attack before (pre-op) and the pain was on my right that time... now it is on my left. I have had constant nausea since my surgery (I am at 14 weeks) and have been bugging the PA about it, so I feel like a psycho if I email him again, about this. Sheesh, some days I feel like I am not fit for glue, you know!?!? To quote Charlie Brown, "ARRRRGGGGHHHH!" ;)

I had the same weird pain... I think mine was from the underwire of my bra!! However my Dr. told me that there is a nerve that around 8-16 weeks depending on the person starts healing around the old stomach...Mine is much better however, it sure feels better when my bra is off!

I thought I should follow this up... I had a hernia! My WLS surgeon found it, but it was from a previous surgery 18 months ago. Nothing to do with my WLS. So I had emergency hernia repair surgery and I am feeling much better. Thanks for everyone who chimed in with advice; I appreciate it! -Shelli
