Question:
Help I am on a plateau

I am currently 1 month post op open RNY. I have lost 34lbs. I currently dont have much energy. I am on a plateau which is very discouraging. I have been bouncing between 1-3lbs over the last 2 weeks. Is this normal and how can I jump start it again, I am on regular foods now so I basicly eat whatever. The only thing I do watch for on the label is sugar grams, Even though it doesnt make me dump. I feel like I gonna set my self up for failure in this    — Quiwana B. (posted on July 25, 2002)

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I'm 5 weeks post op, Lap RNY....and I haven't lost any weight in the last week. Perhaps it could be our menstral cycles that are messing with us? I'm just gonna try and be patient and see if perhaps it is water weight due to that time of the month.<br> 5 weeks post op...down 30lbs

Quiwana, you are on the first of many plateaus over your weight loss journey. 3-4 weeks is usually when the first one hits-your body is just trying to adjust to the rapid weight loss. Go to the library on this web site and check out the topic of plateaus. It'll make you feel better.

I am 7 weeks post and I have lost 37 pounds. I hit a plateau like every 2 weeks that lasts a week long. But I just shrug it off because I usually lose 8 pounds the following week. Now that I am back on the run with my job (in sales) the weight loss has really accelerated. Don't sweat it!

I lost 34 pounds in my first month post-op. I was on a plateau from weeks 5-7. I'm now 12 weeks post-op and have lost a total of 65 pounds. Just keep on doing everything you need to do and it will happen. Just takes the body a few to play catch-up. And most of all, don't get discouraged and revert to old/bad habits! :o)

WELL, I HAD MY SURGERY ON 5/13, SO I'M ABOUT 9 WEEKS POST OP AND I'VE ONLY LOST 37 LBS, AND I'M ON MY 2ND PLATEAU. WHEN I WAS ON MY FIRST PLATEAU I KNEW I WASN'T DRINKING ENOUGH WATER. NOW I HAVE A PERSONAL TRAINER, AM EATING AND DRINKING RIGHT, AND I'M STILL NOT LOSING A POUND. IT'S THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER WHY THE HELL I HAD THIS SURGERY IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT'S SIMPLY NOT WORKING.
